These festivals had difficulty operating the festival due to the warm temperature, which was not like winter, ahead of the annual festival, but this year, the extreme cold, which fell below -15 degrees Celsius, eased worries.
The Hwacheon Sancheoneo Festival and the Hongcheon River Kkong Kkong Festival have been delayed for about a week from previous years in light of their experience in hosting the festival.
The Sancheoneo Festival, which is visited by more than 1 million tourists during the 23-days of festival every year, is now mostly prepared for the festival open
The ice at the ice fishing site, the main program of the festival, is currently about 30cm deep frozen, so there is no problem with holding the festival on time.
After the construction of large ice sculptures and 100-meter ice sledding areas around Hwacheon Stream in the festival venue, is recently drilling holes to hang ice fishing rods.
In addition, the Daegwallyeong Snow Festival, which will be held in Daegwallyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun on the 24th, and the Taebaeksan Snow Festival, which will open on the 7th of February, are starting to prepare for the festival in earnest.
These festival sites are expected to create an optimal festival environment according to the weather forecast that the cold wave will continue until next week.
“Seondeung Street,” one of the pre-events for the Sancheoneo Festival, a national winter festival, is lighting up Hwacheon-eup every night.
Also The world’s largest indoor ice sculpture square was also opened to attract tourists.
