“Grilled oysters festival in Boryeong” November 16 to17th

Boryeong City, Chungcheongnam-do, announced that the city will start the “Cheonbuk Oyster Festival” in the area of the cave complex in Jangjin-ri, Cheonbuk-myeon, on November 16th and 17th for gourmets.

Major events include opening performances, singing contests, oyster tasting events, and invited singers. Merchants plan to introduce a price monitoring system and pay special attention to store cleanliness and hygiene.

The oyster festival was born in the early 1990s when residents gathered one by one to sell petroglyphs. It began in 2001 to develop oysters as a special tourist product and promote their outstanding taste to the nation.

Oyster is low in fat and rich in minerals. Harvesting from November to February of the following year is considered the best product. Oyster grown in the cold wind with tidal flats in the West Sea boasts excellent quality.

In particular, Cheonbukgul contains a lot of minerals and vitamins and has a lot of taurine, which is good for reducing cholesterol and blood pressure. It is one of the nine tastes of Boryeong because of its chewy texture and strong scent.

A variety of foods have been developed that take advantage of their unique flavor and soft texture, including oyster sashimi and oyster salad, chubby steamed oysters, oyster rice, petrified oysters, oyster pancakes, oyster kalguksu, and oyster ramen.

An official from Boryeong City said, “About 300,000 tourists visit Cheonbuk Cave every year to taste it.”
