Jeju consumption promotion event with 50% discount for foreigners
The Jeju Tourism Organization announced on the 6th that it will hold a two-month consumption promotion event on the cafe street in Aewol with tourists using public transportation from August along with the Korea Simple Payment Agency and Alipay Plus.
The promotion is designed to promote tourism convenience and promote consumption for foreign tourists visiting Jeju.
The Jeju Tourism Organization explained that it is conducting promotions on Aewol Cafe Street and newly started public transportation, which have high actual tourist payment rates, based on data from “Zero Pay” merchants, which reduced the burden of payment fees for small business owners through simple smartphone payments.
Zero Pay is linked to 17 payment companies in nine foreign countries, including Alipay, and there are 26,596 merchants in the province as of July.
First of all, the QR payment system, which was introduced in buses for the first time in the country, provides up to 50% discounts based on the amount of payment to foreign tourists who use public transportation.
Zero Pay franchises in Aewol Cafe Street, which are frequented by tourists, also offer a 50% discount on the payment amount (up to 5,000 won, once per person).
The Jeju Tourism Organization also supports the production of digital multilingual menus using QR codes.
It will receive applications from businesses that many foreign tourists visit, such as good price businesses in the province, and produce QR code multilingual menus and store promotional materials.
An official from the Jeju Tourism Organization said, “We hope that foreign tourists will increase their consumption satisfaction through a convenient QR payment system in Jeju,” adding, “We will strengthen cooperation between related organizations to spread mobile payments throughout the Jeju tourism industry, starting with transportation and commercial promotion this time.”
Earlier, Jeju Island and the corporation held a consumption promotion event for foreign tourists at Dongmun traditional market and Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market from April to May, and the amount of payments for Alipay Plus, China’s global payment system, surged 15 times in May compared to March.
