Seoul World Culture Festival Opens on 24th
Gwanghwamun Square and Cheonggye Square Small Global Transformation
Gwanghwamun Plaza, Cheonggye Plaza, and Cheonggyecheon-ro in Seoul will transform into a small global village and a venue for a “global festival” where visitors can taste and enjoy traditional food, desserts, traditional performances, tourism information, and movies from 70 countries in one place for three days from the 24th to the 26th.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 20th that the “2024 Seoul Friendship Festival 2024), a global festival where you can enjoy various cultures from around the world in one place under the theme of “The World and Seoul accompanying culture,” will be held at Gwanghwamun Square, Cheonggye Square, and Cheonggye Stream-ro for three days.
This year’s “2024 Seoul World Urban Culture Festival” will be attended by embassies and cultural centers from 70 countries, the largest since COVID-19. △World Traditional Costume Parade △World Cultural Performance Stage △World Ambassador △World City Tourism Promotion △World Cube Photo Exhibition △World City Cinema △World Food and Dessert Zone △K-Food Zone, and participatory events such as △Hatch and Soul Friends Photo Zone △International Spacing Out Competition (26th) enjoyed by representatives of each country in traditional costumes and Seoul citizens.
The opening ceremony will take place at Gwanghwamun Square from 5 p.m. on Saturday. Starting with the traditional Korean chutadae, an opening parade will be held from Gwanghwamun Square to Sejongdae-ro, with the embassy, foreigners in Korea, performers from friendly cities (nine cities) and citizens participating.
In particular, this year, the parade section was expanded not only to Gwanghwamun Square but also to some sections of Sejong-daero to provide abundant attractions to citizens and foreign tourists
The opening ceremony will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the 24th, from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the 25th, and from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the 26th.
The World Food and Dessert Zone, which receives great attention every year, will be held from the 25th to the 26th around Cheonggye Plaza and Cheonggye Stream. With more countries participating than usual, it will expand to the northern end of Cheonggye Stream this year, introducing Seoul citizens to popular foods around the world. On the stage of Gwanghwamun Square, visitors can see traditional performances of nine Seoul friendly cities.
Cheonggyecheonro will host the World Food Zone where 46 countries participate. Visitors can find familiar foods such as croissants and baguettes from France, waffles from Belgium, and goulash from Austria, to various foods from all over the world, such as Languisi from Hungary, Acai Ball from Brazil, Arefa from Colombia, and Copta from Morocco.
In particular, this year, it will be held as an eco-friendly food festival in cooperation with the embassy, such as reducing the use of disposable products by promoting the use of multi-use containers.
At Gwanghwamun Square, “embassies and urban tourism zones” will be decorated. Forty-seven countries will participate in the embassy’s promotional booth, where visitors can try on traditional costumes from each country and purchase souvenirs and specialties. Eleven countries will participate in the “urban tourism zone,” where visitors can also get tourist information of countries they have not usually been able to access, such as South America, Africa, and the Middle East.
